For this series of Spotlight Interviews we’ll be introducing our Creative People in Florence/Florence Design Week Team! Creative People in Florence is working with a fantastic group of talented designers and artists to produce an exciting series of events for Florence Design Week (May 27-31).
Cadia Romano, originally from Benevento, adopted Florence as her home. She began studying jewelry design at a young age, beginning with a course in wax sculpture, followed by a jewelry course at Il Tari center for jewelry design in Marcianise (Province of Caserta), and then a Diploma in Applied Arts (Metals) in Naples. She then obtained the qualification of Goldsmith in Vicenza, and finally a Master’s degree in Culture and Style of Fashion with a specialization in traditional Florentine jewelery techniques.

La sua passione per la gioielleria la porta, fin dall’adolescenza, a seguire un iter di formazione partendo da un corso di scultura in cera, un corso biennale di gioielleria presso il polo orafo “Il Tarì”, a Napoli con la maturità in Arti Applicate sez. Metalli, a Vicenza per la qualifica di operatore orafo e a Firenze per la laurea in “Cultura e Stilismo della Moda sez. Oreficeria” e un corso di specializzazione in antiche tecniche fiorentine.
How would you describe your relationship with Florence? My relationship with Florence is a like a rebirth. When I decided to move to Florence I was hoping to find a new life with new ideas and possibilities. In the end I found the ideas and inspiration that persuaded me to stay in Florence forever. 
Which aspect of your work gives you the most satisfaction? The greatest satisfaction comes from seeing a new piece of jewelry take shape from an idea or project of my own. It’s always a proud moment.
How would you describe the personality of your jewelry? My jewelry is strong. It has a contemporary structure but also an ancient element. Every project contains a piece of me, a brave and confident woman, a warrior who is also unique.
How do you begin a project? Can you tell us about how a project takes shape? I begin with a concept. I’m always observing what’s around me–people, streets, houses, flowers. All of it is a source of inspiration. I’m always on the look out for that particular element that will inspire new piece.
How important is collaboration with other artists and creative people? What do you look for in a potential creative collaborator? Collaboration is the essential step to growth in your field. Collaboration means having more than one mind on a single project. 
What can we expect from you for Florence Design Week? Something theatrically true or realistically false.
Are there any other plans or projects coming up that you want to share with the group? I’m working on several projects at the moment, but the most important for me is “Matrimonio al GREEN”, a project for a couple of young lovers who want their dream to come true.
Qual’è l’aspetto del tuo lavoro che ti dà più soddisfazione? Credo che la maggiore soddisfazione la riesca a provare quando ho tra le mani il mio nuovo gioiello, quando capisco che la mia idea, prima e il mio progetto dopo, ha preso davvero corpo. E’ una cosa che mi rende estremamente orgogliosa!
Come descriveresti il carattere dei tuoi gioielli? Forti, definiti da una struttura moderna che però ingloba particolari di alcune culture antiche, passate. Ogni gioiello è come se includesse una parte di me, sicuramente ribelle, estremamente guerriera, eppure particolare. 
Come inizi un progetto? Raccontaci un po’ della nascita di un lavoro. Con una visione. Osservo tantissimo qualunque cosa sia intorno a me, persone, case, oggetti, piante. C’è sempre qualcosa che mi colpisce e che mi fa avere una visione su come potrebbe essere se fosse un gioiello.
Per te quant’è importante la collaborazione con altri creativi o artisti? Cosa cerchi in un potenziale collaboratore creativo? Direi che è lo step fondamentale per poter crescere nel proprio lavoro. Collaborare vuole dire poter contare su due cervelli.
Cosa ci dobbiamo aspettare da te per la settimana di Florence Design Week? Qualcosa di teatralmente vero o realisticamente falso.
Ci sono altri progetti o programmi per il futuro che vuoi condividere con il gruppo? Ci sono diversi progetti a cui sto lavorando ma quello che mi sta maggiormente a cuore è “Matrimonio al GREEN”, un progetto unico di due giovani innamorati che vogliono coronare a tutti i costi il loro sogno d’amore.
